Do you think some people update their software far too often?

Yes, I notice some people who make Wordpress plugins and smaller programs update their program on a daily and weekly basis which seems kind of excessive. It is almost like they do it on purpose, so you will constantly visit their website to download the latest update, so they get more traffic to their website for a few weeks.

depends really if there just releasing for the sake of it then yea it's irritating
but if there bugfixes then sure can understand.

generally my update runs are about every 3 months unless critical issues arise then i go for as soon as possible.

minor > As and when ye have 10 or 12 sorted
Critical > immediate.

it never hurts to update often. I on the other hand don't update enough.

well it can hurt, to many updates can actually piss people off,
eg. a long time ago i was apart of a small project that notified you every time a the smallest thing was changed for example
19/11/05 - changed lang_text social
19/11/05 - changed lang_text motd
19/11/05 - changed lang_text header
19/11/05 - changed lang_text footer

was wayyyyy more but was really really irritating to get an e-mail each time

I notice a lot of the time when I used to update Windows Vista. My computer became very slow and caused my hard drive to spin up a lot.
