Does anyone here download things via torrent? I tried it out today since there was something I wanted and couldn't get it via DL and I wasn't very impressed by it.

Yes, I use torrents. I'm guesing the file you are downloaders does not have a lot of seeders/uploaders and downloaders, so the download speeds are slow or not downloading at all if no one is seeding.
I use it to download anime, music, Linux distros, and other types of files.
I recommend
Utorrent. It is small and works pretty well.
Anime Suki is a great Anime Torrent site.
Bittorrent is pretty good if there are a lot of seeders and downloaders, but if there are only a few then it can be very slow depending on the uploaders Internet connection speed.

I think the main problem with Bittorrent and p2p file sharing is most people are leachers and hardly seed their old bittorrent files which they finished downloading because it will slow down their current bittorrent downloads, or they are too lazy/leachy to seed/upload files.

if that's the case then bittorrent should be made where you don't have to rely on other people.

Yes, it will be neat if people can use Free and paid web hosting server services to torrent files, but I got a feeling the web host will shut websites down for using too much bandwidth, or uploading pirated files.
This will solve the problem of people not seeding, or being too lazy to seed since website servers are up 24/7.
Bittorrent can be faster then Direct Download if 1000s of people seed the same file.

the chances of that happening are slim to none. It's better to stick to DL.
