Overstaffing

Overstaffing is a common problem with many forums. Having too many staff makes the forum look inactive and looks like the staff are the only one who are using it. If a forum just started and they have 10 staff, they could have many posts yet less people would join because the posts are all from staff. The other users that may join may see this as that they have to be posting because they're staff, the forum isn't appealing to normal users, etc.

Forums should not start out with many staff. However, as the forums get bigger more staff should be added to keep watch and keep the forum safe and without spam.

How many staff should a new forum start out with?

I think 3-5 staff would be fine for a new forum. I also find it hard to manage multiple staff if I'm starting a forum since I be too busy promoting, posting topics, and installing mods.

I say a few admin and 1 or 2 mods for a new forum. depending on your forum you don't need any other staff until you become more active.

Three total staff members including owner is over enough to start a forum. It should actually be enough for a very long time.
