I'm just curious as to how long laptop batteries last?

I think they last a few years depending on how often you use your laptop. If you use one of those USB cooling pads for laptops, your laptop battery may last slightly longer because the cool air from the USB cooling pad for laptop will make your laptop battery run cooler. Cooler running electronics last longer.

Although, batteries can't hold as much electricity if you charge them a lot, and regular use while you use it.

when should batteries be charged?

I read a posts online that it is best to charge them when they only has 35-40% of charge left, and it would extend the battery lifetime of the battery.

Usually when mine is in the 20s I start to charge it.
