Hopefully, there would be a cheaper version of the PS4 which does not come with a hard drive like the PS3 Super Slim, and Xbox 360 Core Arcade for people who plan on installing their own hard drives, and light gamers who don't plan on playing many games at once, so there is no need for a hard drive.

I agree we will need hard drive for more generations. SSDs may also be a fad, and never becomes hugely popular when hard drive catch up in speed with SSDs, or if people just want a big drive, and rather pay a less money for storage, and are willing to wait a few seconds extra for levels to load like how hard drives are still very popular with $500 Gaming and regular PCs, and servers.

Consoles also use laptop style 2.5 inch hard drives which spins at 5400RPM, and have less cache memory which are slower than desktop style 3.5 inch hard drive which spins at 7200-10000RPM, and has a 64MB cache, so once console use faster hard drives instead of smaller laptop hard drives they should load games faster.

Hard drives also last a long time sometimes. I have old Windows XP computers from the year 2002, and the hard drives still works. The library and schools computer hard drives also seem very durable where they are ON for 10 or more hours a day, and still work after many years of constant use.

I bet in the far future some games will be so big that they will be stored on TB size hard drives rather than discs, or cartridges.

When gaming enters 4k resolution, we will need 100 TB storage.

I think PC Gaming is already at 4K for some games, and the size of the games like Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Blacklist are still only require 25GB of space according to its Steam Page at http://store.steampowered.com/app/235600/ .

Ryse which can play games in 4K resolution only needs 26GB of space. Source: http://store.steampowered.com/app/302510/

The first game is only 26 hours in length and the first is 8 hours the most. Thats still a lot.

Those are big games, but the biggest PC game I think is "The Elder Scrolls Online" where you need 80GB of space for playing it on higher PC video settings according to http://www.game-debate.com/games/index. ... s%20Online
