your network?

So what kind of home network do you have? It ranges from modems, to routers to switches which all connect devices together.

I use a seperate cable modem, and wireless router which also has wired ports for wired devices.

mine is simple as well, a cable modem which is wired into my router which sends out wifi. A simple one but can easily get so much more complicated.

When I first got cable internet in 2003, I just used an even simpler hub which just can share the internet between two computers because my ISP just gives me two IP addresses. I also owned a D-link wired router a few years latter which can share the internet with 4 devices because the router uses its own custom IP address.
I think a lot of big networks still use wired networking hubs, switches, and routers with a lot of ports.

hubs? Oh no, they are evil those hubs. They are junk and most cisco run networks in any company has no hubs in it.
