I want to get one as well, but Powerline adapters can be kind of expensive.

How long do they tend to last for?

I think it depends on the brand, and price. If you buy one from a cheaper, and less reliable brand, it will last shorter. Higher quality and more expensive brands like Netgear, D-Link, and Belkin adapters would last longer.
