Taiwan veteran singer Michael Wong, a former member of the pop duo 'Wu Yin Liang Pin', was invited to CRI on Thursday night to talk about his new album and Asia concert tour.
Regarding his latest album, the singer says, "Actually, I'd been planning to make it for a long time. And now, because of the concert tour, I really wanted to release an album closely linked to my performances before my tour."
The album is a collection of 17 songs on two discs, some of which were written for female singers like Fish Leung and Rene Lau, who are also quite popular among his fans.
Whether the album can be seen as just another compilation, Micahel has his own take on it.
"Please don't regard it as just a compilation. It's a brand new album that we produced. Actually, ten of the songs on the album are all piano versions that were performed and sung by just myself, in order to preserve the feeling of when I wrote them."
But whether this had made a difference or not, the listeners have made up their own minds. It has sold more than 1 million copies across China after one month since released.
Regarding the name of the album, "Promise", he explained, "The concert is like a promise with fans and me. And fans are also looking forward to listening to my own version of the songs that I wrote for other singers before. So, that can also be considered a promise."
Asked about whether he only sings ballads, he argued that songs of his like "Fall in Love with Her" also includes elements of rock.
His first concert at Hong Kong Coliseum at the end of March kicked off his Asia Concert Tour. Unfortunately, Beijing fans won't be able to attend his concert locally, for there was no venue available this year.
As an ambassador of the Malaysia Tourism Administration, Micahel jokingly reveals that Chinese tourists to Malaysia are expected to attend one of the singer's concerts as one stop of their travel package.
