I feel that the loop or hole can also break over time on some USB flash drives. A lot of Plastics may break easily when dropped or flexed.

Sometimes the usb itself can break from the slider, lost a few like that.

It is too bad that the USB metal Plug on USB drives and cables can't be easily replaceable.

I think it's their main circuit board, so not really possible to replace that but still be nice to somehow get the data off of it.

I think there used to be udb drive which use SD cards gor storage, so you can take out the card to view it on a PC.

I think usb drives with removeable SD cards were more popular when USB drives cost more money, and fewer computers have builtin SD card readers.
