Next-generation ATI Radeon cards to pack GDDR5 memory

Post by froggyboy604 »

A full six months after Samsung took the wraps off of GDDR5 memory, along comes word from AMD that the next-generation ATI Radeon graphics cards will boast said technology. Apparently AMD will be tapping Qimonda for its supply of GDDR5 modules, which should boost gaming performance as well as benefit stream processing, "where GPUs are applied to address complex, massively parallel calculations." As Hot Hardware points out, the release comes just weeks away from the rumored debut of the Radeon 4000 series, so if our deductive reasoning is sound, we'd surmise that the looming Radeon 4800 will indeed feature GDDR5.

Same here. I want a new Video card with GDDR5.

I don't really get why new versions of DDR come out for video cards first instead of system ram since the latest System ram version is DDR2 or DDR3.

They come out on graphics cards because graphics cards require them,
most systems can trundle along with Regular DDR

The need for DDR2/3 are just to make things look prettier to hide there uselessness, Rather than run a downright god awful program to look at but does exactly what it says on the tin,

(First point is proved by Leopard/Tiger i forget what crapple call there fat lady MACINTOSH = Most Applications Crash; If Not, The OS Hangs )

well i'll assume you mean GDDR5

Not really they just allow more graphical rendering to go on at once,

Could also give yuo better colour definition, which is a waste for LCD's

OLED's, SED/FED's then it's worthwhile,
