Yes, I think People who use linux as their main OS end up saving more time because Linux does not have as many viruses for it, so there is no need to routinely scan and remove viruses. Plus, Linux based OS like Ubuntu, debian, etc don`t require regular scan disks, disk defragmentations, etc.
Plus, I notice Linux based OS and software are usually relatively faster then Windows and Macs when on a computer with similar hardware.
The only problem with linux is there is a bit of a learning curve for learning new software and installing new software on linux.
I like how a lot of Linux Distros. come with useful software compared to the software that comes with Windows or Companies who make PCs like Dell, Sony, Compaq, Apple, HP, Acer, etc, so linux users don`t have to search online or buy decent software to use on their computer.
Do you think people who use linux based OS save more time then Windows and Mac users.

Windows is deisgned so any idiot can use it, it's also designed to work on thousands of different system configs,
Linux (*nix based) are designed for people who know there way around computers and are more than a little tech savvy,
Mac's are the only perfect units in all the land as they do exactly what they are designed for "door stops"
Linux (*nix based) systems have a steeper learning curve (straight up in some cases), windows has an almost flat learning curve, for basic (l)users so whether you want to learn alot in a very short space of time go with linux if you want to join the herds or bewildering idiots go with windows,
this is not to say ALL idiots use windows users are idiots, just 97%
Also your assumption that linux doesn't require disk maintenence is wrong, and linux systems can be set up just as insecurely as any windows system
Steep learning Curve Linux
Low Learning : Windows
Single purpose (door stop) Mac
To tell everyone you are Orientated to folks of the same gender : iPod

Ah, I know that some linux distros I used have a scandisk like program that scans the drive if I accidently pulled the plug or shut off the power to my comp.
But, I never saw a disk defrag. program for linux.
Does linux have disk defrag built in.
I know that most people should do a disk cleanup to remove junk and useless files on their HD.

i beleive the util is inbuilt, linux file systems will not need defragging as much as windows, because they expect sed to edit and make files larger/smaller and leave gaps between the files to allow for this
hence theres not billions of useless defrag tools like for windows, who put the files and every subsequent file to the start of the disk, so seek times will be faster in theory, but there not because the stylus has to move 3billion times to get a simple text file,
i think the inbuilt/extention is ext2 then ye order it to do what ye like, though --help would be a good place to start i think,
