Should forum owner hide the memberlists, e-mail, website buttons from guests?

Post by froggyboy604 »

I been reading online there are bots on the internet that harvest e-mail addresses to use in their spamming campaigns, or posts links on forums and guestbooks to increase their page rank, so if forum admins disable the memberlists, e-mail and website buttons would it decrease the amount of spam members get, and make it harder for bots to get a higher page rank on search engines.

E-mail yes, member list optional as if you have a good anti spam protection it doesn't matter

Disabling memberlists, and profiles from guests can prevent search engines, and other guests from visiting the spammer site. I read that it can also prevent human spammers from registrating on your forum because they know that other guests and search engine bots can't see their link to their sites on profiles, memberlist, and that user bar at the bottum of all their posts, so the human spammer's site gets less exposure to the bots and other guests on the board.
