Student sues Amazon after Kindle deletes his homework

Post by froggyboy604 »

It seems we have yet another reason to volley complaints in Amazon's directions. 17-year old high school Justin Gawronski had apparently been taking electronic notes and annotations on his Kindle for a summer assignment on George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four. Yeah, you can probably guess where this is going -- after the retailer remotely pulled the plug on that particular version of the book, Gawronski's notes were lost in the ethers, rendered useless. The suit, which is seeking class action status, asks that Amazon be legally blocked from improperly accessing users' Kindles in the future and punitive damages for those affected by the deletion -- and if he asks nice, we're pretty sure Jeff would write his teacher a note.

This is like me suing Microsoft Word for crashing and me losing all my homework because I did not save or back up my work. This is another valid reason for me to stick to reading my paper back novels. Atleast I won't have to worry about someone deleting my work remotely. Plus, if this student stuck with taking notes on lined paper and a pen this would not happen.

that kid might as well go to bed and dream, that is the only way he is going to win that law suit.

I think the best the boy will hope for is some settlement or a $25-100 gift card from Amazon.

I'm amaze at how that a 17 year old can afford legal fees since the most teens can't afford a good lawyer? Either he is representing himself , or he using his parents money to pay for legal fees...

This is kind of a weird coincedence that the book that got deleted was 1984 which is a book about how the authorities "Big Brother" controls everything and the main characters trys his best to get away, and Amazon delete 1984 from their kindles which Amazon decided to not sell anymore.

This type of stuff happens to often nowadays. Sort of like the guy that spilled hot coffee in his lap at McDonalds and sued them for it. People sue for some of the stupidest reasons nowadays and I think something should be done to get it under control.

I heard he won 150,000 USD. Link to article. buzzbox But, he has to split his cash with a lawyer. I think sometimes it is the lawyers fault for representing people with such claims. The US has some pretty weird law suits like the woman who sues the college to return her tuition because she can't find a job.
