I notice a trend that people care about a lot of top 10 lists like "Top 10 richest people, Top 10 fastest cars,...and the list goes on"
I think people care about ranking lists because they can be interesting like the Guiness world record book it is a list of number 1s.
Why do you think people care so much about Top 10 and ranking lists?

No it's just there idiots,
"top 10" lists are for small minds people i don't care what Gadget from the planet tomorrow was voted most likely to explode... well actually i do but that kind of list is never covered because it's alway "top 10 gaget with the best finish" or "top 10 useless firewall product" genereally they say firewall but when Zonealarm is anywhere in the top 50,000 it's not worth the paper it's printed on.
