Windows 7 Shutdown

Hey, remember when Microsoft was offering a free and complete version of Windows 7 before it was even released, otherwise known as the Windows 7 Release Candidate? Well, those who opted to download the free pre-release version of the new OS should now be experiencing a series of automatic shutdowns as the free 1-year trial comes to an end. That's right, the honeymoon is over. You and Windows 7 Release Candidate should be well on your way to couples therapy, leading to an inevitable divorce.

As part of the terms of downloading and using the Windows 7 Release Candidate, machines using the pre-release OS will begin bi-hourly automatic shutdowns starting March 1, 2010. These automatic shut offs will result in unsaved data loss and a forced closure of all current programs.

Those using the Windows 7 Release Candidate are strongly urged to revert to a previous OS or upgrade to the full retail version of Windows 7. Instructions on how to do so are available at Microsoft's Windows Blog.

Not surprising since MS is not known for giving away freeware. I wonder if MS cut off all Windows Update for Windows RC 7.

I'm pretty sure they did. I be surprised greatly if they didn't.

yes the cut off does affect the windows update in the RC builds if i remember semi coherently you only get the critical updates and are treated like the vicious pirate you aspire to be.

I'm also guesing when Windows 7 Service Pack 1 and possibly newer versions of Windows Live Essentials like Windows Live Messenger, and other MS software comes out (Office 2010) the 7 RC won't be compatible with 7 SP1 without any hacks or tweaks.
