Yes, it is good to have an anti-spyware or malware with an active real-time shield. It is unfortunate that most free antispyware companies (spybot, malwarebytes, superantispyware, a2, etc) don't make an active spyware shield on their free products, and want you to upgrade to their paid product to have an active spyware shield. I guest people these days are not willing to pay 20-30 bucks a year for just tech support.

I gues if you manually scan a file with malwarebytes,spybot before you install it on a pc is also effective. But, people forget and they got a spyware or malware infection.
