Do you think making an E-mail mailing list is better then using forums mass e-mail feature?

Yes since the people who join a e-mail list want specific information like "discount codes for products from online stores", but if you send e-mail to all members. It be a waste of bandwidth if not everyone wants to read the mail, and some members might report the forum owner for spamming eventhough they are a member of the forum and opt-in to receiving e-mails from the admin when they joined.

A few bloggers also wrote blogs on the key to selling "electronic products to subscribers is by using e-mail newsletter marketing to start a relationship with the subscribers since E-mail is such a personal form of communication compared to twitters."

Depends if people sign up to a forum then they should EXPECT the forums news and events mailed to them periodically
but then if the subject matter of the forum is discount codes then it is easier to just use the forum mass email

though i care not which way or that as my frequency of updates is at best erratic at worst non existent though could be the other way round.

i think the best is a hybrid of the 2 but thats just me lil old adorable me

I notice webhosting companies tend to send a lot of flashy looking newsletters with pictures of web servers, and other shiny pictures with large 3D text with something like "50% of hosting plans for the first 6 months." I'm guesing they used something like Dreamweaver, Frontpage, Expressions, etc and pasted the ad into their e-mail list program.

A lot of newsletters these days don't seem very helpful. They just have a few lines of information, and a links to products they are trying to sell., or they try to convince you to donate or buy their paid software or memberships...

I'm guesing this is how most freeware and websites make some of their incomes by promoting links in e-mail lists.
