Sony announced this morning that the PlayStation 2, in its 11-year lifespan, has sold over 150 million units worldwide. This makes the PS2 the best-selling piece of gaming hardware ever released. Don't celebrate too long, Sony fans; the Nintendo DS is hot on the PS2's trail. It's expected to outsell the PlayStation 2, in terms of worldwide sales, by March.
The PS2 was released in March 2000 in Japan and seven months later in America. Thanks to strong third party support the PS2 boasts a library of nearly 11,000 software titles.
