Expand Laptop battery life

What are some good ways to make sure the batter of a laptop lasts longer?

I know the most obvious is to dim the screen back light and close unneeded programs.

I think using the Classic Gray theme can increase your battery life because it is faster and uses less power as the default Glass-like theme in Windows 7.

Some system utiliy software like TuneUp Utilities, Advance System Care, and Game Booster also have a Turbo Mode to turn off programs which you never use.

My laptop has a switch to turn off Wi-Fi internet which can save some power. Wired internet might use less power on laptops since it does not need to transmit wireless signals all the time.

You can also adjust Windows 7 Power Management to Power Saver, or Balance.

Unplugging USB Flash drives, mouse, and other USB devices from your USB ports can make your laptop use power because the USB devices uses some power.

Some laptops also let you turn off your touchpad when you are not using it by pressing a button.

Lowering the volume might also save some power.

I did disable my touch pad since I use a mouse instead.
