Sometimes the sound of a PC's cooling fans, and PC speakers playing music and sound files are louder than the hard drives, so it is harder to hear the hard drive.Skeithex wrote:Can't say I've ever heard of a loud HDD from a pc before.froggyboy604 wrote:They also make no noise which would be good for computers which need to be very quiet like computers which are used to record sound, and music.Skeithex wrote:I think thats what sells SSDs despite their price. I'm sure in 10 years they will be affordable, HDD being dirt cheap.

Some better PC cases has rubber on the hard drive holder, and a thicker case which make hard drive noise harder to hear.Skeithex wrote:I've heard of loud fans, but not enough to drown out a bad HDD. Though I do heat the HDD hum at times.

I've seen those, kind of neat but not sure if they really work.froggyboy604 wrote:Some better PC cases has rubber on the hard drive holder, and a thicker case which make hard drive noise harder to hear.Skeithex wrote:I've heard of loud fans, but not enough to drown out a bad HDD. They may be more worth it on faster hard drive which spin faster, but not as worth it on hard drives which spin at under 7200RPM like most laptop based hard drive, and power saving hard drives which spin at a slower RPM to save power. The rubber hard drive holder can prevent other vibrations from spinning disc drive, cooling fans, and power supply fan on the PC case from shaking the hard drive, so there is less noise.
