Good Ethernet cables?

Post by Skeithex »

What are some good Ethernet cables that you would recommend getting? And maybe a 3 port switch as well?

I just mainly use the Ethernet cables which come with my router, PC, or Ethernet card.

I think making your own Ethernet cables can be a good option since you can pick your own plugs, and cable since a lot of pre-made Ethernet cables come with plugs where the plastic tabs break easily, and the cable are un-shielded, so if your home or office has a lot of electrical and magnetic interference, your network can be unreliable.

I ask because I'm moving to a place that has RJ-45 plugins in all room walls, so I'm looking at finally hard wiring my internet into my PS4/laptop for once.

That is a nice feature for a room having RJ-45 plugs in all rooms. I notice a lot of people and places use Belkin Ethernet cables. I own 1 Belkin ethernet cable, and it works well.

There are different versions cable with different speed ratings like CAT 5E which can transfer files at a maximum of 1000 Mbps. Cat 6 Ethernet cable which can transfer files at 10000 Mbps if you have a compatible Ethernet chip on your laptop, and a Switch or Router which supports 10000MBps.

I think a lot of the cables maybe made in the same factories as other cable companies. But, some cables use higher quality plugs, and plastic casing to protect the cables from stuff like dust, and dirt.

most cables plug in rather well you don't have to worry about dust, unless you live in a smoke/animal filled home.
