I use whatever my ISP provides, I like to get my own but I rather use theirs since it be easier to take care of any technical issues.

I also use whatever my ISP provides me as well because it makes technical issues easier to fix, and they may count modem firmware updates, and other modem bandwidth intensive features toward the bandwidth limit which I have.

Some newer 3rd party modems may use more bandwidth because of more advance features like autofirmware updates, firewall, auto-internet-fixing features like occasionally checking if the internet is working by visiting a website which can use more bandwidth.

very true.

Plus apparently my ISP went to 3.0 with a certain software or something and everyone using 2.0 made modems had to upgrade or they didn't have internet any longer.
