Maybe it takes awhile for your ISP to approve your router to be allowed to be used with the ISP connection which your modem uses.

I think ISP have the power to block people from using third-party routers which the ISP can't control.

I'm pretty sure they can't do that without good reason. But I'm sure it had something to do with the IP address not resolving.

If Net Neutrality ends in the US, the ISP may force people to use the ISP branded router with built-in modems. I feel the US government and FCC may not care to do anything to protect US Internet users from being ripped off by needing to rent both a router and modem for $10 or more a month, and also pay very expensive monthly internet bills.

I know a lot of ISP now modems with built-in wireless routers, and it can be difficult to attach a router to their modem because you need to setup Bridge mode on modem router combo device configuration program.

god I hope not, I save a lot of money by having my own router and I'm pretty sure its a lot better than what the ISP give out.

I agree most people save a lot of money on buying their own router and modem instead of renting their modems and routers for many dollars a month. I think most $50 routers are better than the ISP router which sometimes use the older slower 802.11N and 802.11G wi-fi instead of the faster 802.11AC Wi-Fi, and slower 100 Mbps ethernet port instead of 1000Mbps Ethernet ports.

Unfortunately, if the government change the law to allow ISPs to block third-party modems, the ISP may force people to rent the ISP's modem and routers, or buy the ISP's modem and router for a expensive price.

Hopefully not, I see people out all the time buying their own routers and modems.

There are some people who don't have enough money to rent or buy the more expensive official ISP modem, and router, so they buy cheaper used and 3rd-party alternative modem and routers from online shopping sites like Amazon and eBay, or they got a free router and modem from a family member or friend who does not need the old modem and router anymore because they are moving out of town.
