SSDs get hot?

Post by Skeithex »

Is it me or are Solid State Drives get rather hot easily? Seems like the one in my laptop needs an extra fan to keep it cool or the base its under does get uncomfortably hot.

Maybe the cooling fans are spinning too slow on laptops and desktops PC to properly cool SSDs, and other parts, so they run cooler. A lot of computer makers also use cheaper lower quality metal heatsinks, thermal paste on CPUs, and fans, so computers run hotter.

If you want your desktop or laptop PC to run cooler, you may need to install faster spinning third-party cooling fans or cooling pads on them to cool them better.

I do run a fan under it to keep it cool, but it is a 1k costing gaming pc. it shouldn't have anything cheap in it. Granted I've never used a MSI brand pc before.

Maybe there is a software setting on MSI PC software to make your internal fan spin faster.

possible, or I hopefully didn't damage something when I opened it as I had a bit of trouble because I didn't realize there was a secret screw still holding it together.

Maybe the firmware for the PC motherboard is set to make the fans to spin at a slower speed , so your PC fans runs quieter, and use less electricity. But, slower spinning fans make it tougher for your fans to cool your PC.

possibly, it did come with an HDD and one of those new slimline SSDs that only holds 128GB. I swapped out the HDD for a full 1 TB SSD. Though the mini SSD is still in there and giving me some OS conflict.
