Do you think we will ever get longer lasting batteries? To the point that all devices only need a replacement once a year or longer?

I think it is unlikely in the near future that we get longer batteries where all devices which only need to be charge once a year. Electronics like smartphones, tablets, laptops, and handheld game consoles like the Switch are now use more power.
Low powered devices like clocks, remote controls and smoke alarms may get longer battery life since these devices are unlikely to get more power intensive, and newer battery tech may store more power, and is less likely to lose its charge as quickly.

never know, it be great if there was one. I remember a old sitcom episode called Bareny Miller that someone gets into trouble for tying to announce that a limitless battery can be made.
