Hard to trust apps these days as they might be malware themselves.

Many big antivirus like Bitdefender have an antivirus app for Android, and iPhone, so there are safer antivirus for mobile. I think more people would need an antivirus app for their smartphone when they use smartphones more for storing data, using office suites, and doing other tasks.

Thankfully mobile doesn't need much, just street smarts to not download random apps.

I think it is also a good idea to not click on strange links in messaging apps and text messages from people you don't trust because the link may trick them into downloading and installing malware apps.

Stores like Google Play also have a basic antivirus for scanning for malware apps, so the app store will warn you if you have malware installed.

Well the main thing with AV is you don't know it is a virus until a expert deems it as so.
