I think storing files to a read-only storage like Blu-Ray-R disc which is set to read-only can be good idea for very important data which you don't want ransomware or a strong magnetic wave or static electricity which can destroy a hard drive or memory chip.

That can be annoying to those locked and those who don't know how to unlock them.

Ransomware can be very annoying. There is also no guarantee that you will get your files back after paying the ransom to buy the password.

I heard it can take a long time for Ransomware files to be unlocked, so you may not be able to unlock your files before a due date like the due date for filing your income tax or to hand in your homework to a class or workfiles to your boss.

At my work we have a policy that if we get ransomware we shut everything down and start over, we don't play games.

I imagine some ransomware also infect a computer with spyware as well, so it can infect your computer again, and steal your logins for your other computers on your network.

It's why you got to wipe everything and start over, a painful process which is why AV needs to be able to block such stuff.
