Old computers may also be sold for metal which could be worth a few dollars at a used metal buyer. I heard metal theft is a problem in some places.
Unfortunately, criminals who are desperate for money may steal computers even if they are only worth a few dollars to $100 dollars when sold to a used metal buyer or sold to strangers who may not pay much money for stolen computers.

Re: Purchasing parts
The metal would be worthless, it would be any copper that people would want to gut out of a machine.

Re: Purchasing parts
Computers have gold connectors on computer parts like CPU, RAM, and video cards. I think the gold found inside of computer are worth about $10 or more.
A lot of power bricks, heatsinks, and powersupply can contain enough copper where someone can make a few dollars from selling it to a second hand scrap metal buyer.

Re: Purchasing parts
I think some more expensive desktop computers may have gold wiring cases because rich people feel gold wiring could make their computer faster, improve the video and audio quality, and more relible. Some expensive sound cards and video cards may contain gold.
I think people in poorer countries like Cuba may pay more for a small amount of gold than copper because Gold does not rust like copper and steel which can rust and make copper and steel worthless. Gold is also used to buy things in countries which money is almost worthless.

Where that might be a thing, I don't see many rich people owning such gold rich pcs. Be a true waste of cost.

Re: Purchasing parts
I think a high percentage of rich people don't have PCs with a lot of gold cover computer parts with lots of gold on it because a lot of rich people like to save money by buying more reliable products which are also affordable, and they become rich from not spending a lot of money, and saving a lot of money.
