I think some try, but I don't think many site allow legal fee money fundraising.

I imagine people may need to rely on cash donations, and cryptocurrency if most crowd funding sites don't let people crowd fund court fees.

Generally, local donations would be what allows it to happen, if it happens at all.

Making a forum or website to accept donations is not hard as well.

True, but hard getting the url out so people can find the sites to donate.

I think a contest with a decent award like a gift card may make a lot of people find the donation site.

Very possible, or spammers just looking to cash in quick.
