I'm afraid to try new software updates because they can break Windows, and some Windows computer use file and folder password file encryption which can make it harder to recover files if Windows breaks.

very true, its always best to wait for others to update first or wait a bit for bugs to surface.

I think testing out the software in a new virtual machine can be a good idea if you use software which does not have a lot of users who regularly update their software, so it can be harder to find new user reviews of software updates.

VM testing should be standard, but it doesn't always happen. Much like the incident a few months ago when airlines went down due to a crowdstirke upgrade.

I'm surprise that the security software, and airlines did not test out software before releasing and updating the computer systems.

But, bad software updates may be harder to prevent if both companies underpay their workers, so most of the good workers switch to jobs with fair wages, and the unskilled workers have to do jobs they don't know how to do well.

Not everyone does a great job, and a lot of times bad parts easily get out.

I think not having enough workers, and slow backup drives, computers and servers can make it longer to recover from a bad software update as well.
