Yes,more ways to charge more to fly. If planes become unsafe people might look at other modes of transportation from trains, boats, buses, cars and bike if planes become more unsafe to ride on. Other modes of transportation may be slower, but you still have a chance to escape from a accident compared to dropping from the sky.

One has to wonder if the first air plane built by the right bros was safer than todays planes.

I saw videos of the Wright Brothers plane on TV, and it flew slower, and at lower hieghts, so yes it could be safer.
