Ubuntu 7.10 Bootable CD won't run the GUI on an older with a s3 savage videocard?

It just boots to a command promp that says "type 'help' for a list of options"

Ubuntu 7.10 works on a computer that has Intel integrated graphics, so I think the CD ISO was burned correctly.
