demand for Green envitomental products are making companies come out with more slower and lower quality tech?

I notice that a lot of manufactuers are pushing their green products that they claim use less power then other products.
Like a lot of companies say if you want to save money on electricity, buy a LCD and a laptop or a solid state drive.
It's true that LCD uses less power then a CRT, but the black level on LCD are not as good as on CRTs.
Laptops also are slower then desktops of the same price range because they have slower hardrives which spin at 5000 RPM compred to a 7200 RPM drive on a desktop.
I also notice the materials for some products seem kind of thin. I have an old boombox made from Thicker plastic and metals. But, these days a lot of boomboxs and computers look like they break if they fall from a low height because their case use less materials and is made from thin crackable plastics, or metal that dent easily.
