Finally, North American Nintendo fans will be getting an affinity club of their own. Nintendo has opened up the North American version of Club Nintendo, a program that allows members to register various Nintendo products for special credit. The credit can be used to purchase products, many of which are exclusive and available in limited quantities. A Nintendo press release states:
"'Club Nintendo gives fans what they want -- access to exclusive rewards for their loyalty to our brand and our products,' said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America Inc.’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. 'We’re offering some unique items as a way to say thanks for their support of Nintendo.'"
The offerings are pretty sparse right now; the coolest prize is the Game & Watch Collection for Nintendo DS. In the past, Japanese Club Nintendo members received first dibs on limited-edition products and new DS colors. Hopefully North American members will get access to more cool and exclusive products in the future. Members of the My Nintendo club can migrate their accounts over to Club Nintendo.
