Making websites less popular and social network websites increasing in popularity?

I notice many of my friends I know offline tends to spend more time updating their social networking sites then writing HTML to make a website,or using a " What you see is what you get" (WYSIWYG) website builder to make websites.

Are any of you also noticing this trend?
