While the new Firefox contains lots of improvements like the ability to provide Location Aware Browsing using web standards for geolocation, support for native JSON, and Improvements to the Gecko layout engine (including speculative parsing for faster content rendering), the thing that jumps right out at me is the browser's "privacy" mode.

According to Mozilla, Firefox's Private Browsing Mode is for "times when you do not want other users of your computer to see or access [browsing] information. For example, perhaps if a friend or family member shares your computer, you would prefer for them not to be able to see what websites you've visited or what files you've downloaded."

With a simple flick of a switch, Firefox 3.5 will keep the following information private during your web browsing:

* Visited pages: No pages will be added to the list of sites in the History menu, the Library window's History list, or the Smart Location Bar's address list.
* Form and Search Bar entries: Nothing you enter into text boxes on web page forms or the Search bar will be added to the list of entries for Form autocomplete.
* Passwords: no passwords will be automatically filled in during the your Private Browsing session, and no new passwords will be saved.
* Download List entries: No files you download will remain in the list in the Downloads window after you turn off Private Browsing.
* Cookies: Files created by websites, that store information on your computer, such as your preferences when visiting that site (When a website has a "remember this" checkbox, they are using a cookie) will not be stored.
* Web cache files: No temporary Internet files or cached files from web pages will be saved until you turn off Private Browsing.

A lot of web browsers seem to be using a private mode, but I wonder if they also have a feature to overwrite old browsing files like cookies, cache data, etc so it is harder to retrieve when deleted.
