Games On Demand For Windows

Post by Skeithex »

Microsoft announced its Games on Demand for Windows service a few weeks back, and today it was made available for download. It’s basically a mix between Steam and Xbox Live Marketplace, in that you can use your existing Xbox Live account to buy, download and play full games, demos, videos, DLC, and such.

There are currently 13 games full games available on the service, including fallout 3, Resident Evil 5 and Street fighter IV, but the list of available titles will obviously grow in time. I’ve been playing around with the service a little bit, and it’s quite slick and easy to use. After synching up my XBL account, I downloaded the free, puzzle-based robot title Tinker and was playing (and earning achievements) within minutes.

It definitely needs more content, but Games on Demand is a much needed, and long overdue, addition to the Games for Windows initiative that still hasn’t seen the kinds of movement that Microsoft has long since anticipated. Whether Games on Demand will be the thing to reignite user interest remains to be seen, but it certainly won’t hurt.

Sounds like a good service for people who like PC gaming.
