Sun makes Open Office, Virtual Box, Java, MySQL, and a few other free programs.
But, now it is owned/merged by Oracle if you go to http://sun.com it redirects you to Oracle.com which makes paid database and other software.
Oracle website seem to make it harder for visitors to find links to download virtualbox, mysql, solaris, java, and other free open source programs compared to the old sun.com website.
I just hope Oracle does not start charging people for OpenOffice, MySQL, Virtualbox, or other program which sun previously made available for free and open source.
I guest it makes people have fewer choices since as more and more company get merged or bought out then there be less competition or choice for the consumer to pick from.
Views on Oracle buying/merging with SUN microsystems?

Yes, but I think if Oracle charged people for MySQL databases for forums, CMS, and other types of websites people just switch to something else which is free or cheaper.Skeithex wrote:I never use the stuff but it might make website hosting prices go up.
I notice people these days usually look for free software before using paid software.
