I used http://groups.yahoo.com/ to promote my forum, and Final Fantasy 8 http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/finalfantasyquest/ .
Mxproject also has a Yahoo Groups at http://ca.groups.yahoo.com/group/Mxproject/ , but no one but myself joined.
I also used Google Groups to promote Mxproject at http://groups.google.com/group/mxprojectradio .
Groups from Yahoo and Google can be good at getting some traffic, but Google and Yahoo Groups also have a lot of spammers who spam your group.
Ever used Yahoo Groups or Google Groups to post online similar to Forums?

They are good for getting back links, and free traffic, but I think groups are not a good source for traffic unless your Yahoo or Google groups have a lot of members before you started your forum, or ranks high in Google, Yahoo, etc.Skeithex wrote:I never did get into the whole group thing, and I don't see them as a good source for forum traffic.
I use to tell people about my websites on related Yahoo groups with more members, and got some traffic, and new guest book entries.
But, using promotional forums, post exchanges, Google, YouTube, Twitter and Facebook can be a better source of getting more traffic.
