Xbox 360

Post by padwini »

I am getting a 360 soon and am an online player. I have a home computer but it is on a completely different floor than my Xbox and no Ethernet cable is long enough to connect to it. But, I have a laptop that runs off the router's wireless internet that is less than 10 feet away from where the Xbox 360 would be. Is it possible to just run the Ethernet cable to the laptop and not have to worry about buying another router? Thanks for all your answers.

I think it is possible to use your laptops wireless signal to connect it to the Xbox 360 via a network cable, but I think you need some special software to turn your laptop into a router.

There are adapters called Powerline adapters which uses your home's electricity wire to connect your computer to your network, and the internet.

The new Xbox 360 slim have a wireless adapter built-in which you can use to connect to a wireless router.

Xbox 360 should be wireless and unless your router is pretty cheap you should be able connect it without going through the laptop which by doing may give you higher lag chances.

The original fat Xbox 360 does not have wireless, but you can buy an USB Wireless adapter for the Xbox 360 fat, but the wireless adapter has to be made for the Xbox 360 like the Official Xbox 360 Wireless adapter

The original Fat Xbox 360 was made in 2005 when Wi-Fi was not popular in non-portable devices like desktop computers. The Xbox 360 also was $299 for the Arcade, and $399 for the 20GB Xbox 360, so if the 360 had Wi-Fi back in 2005, it would cost more money like the PS3 in 2006 which was $499 for 20GB PS3 - $599 60GB PS3.

Also, Wifi routers weren't popular in 2005 because fewer people owned laptops, tablets, and phones with Wifi, so not including Wi-Fi on the Xbox 360 is good for people on a budget who don't need wifi because they did not own a wifi router. High speed internet was also less popular in 2005, so fewer people owned routers back in 2005.

Plus, Gamers can always buy a Wi-Fi adapter for their Xbox 360 in 2005 if they need Wi-Fi to go online with a wireless router in 2005.

A benefit of an USB 360 wifi adapter for a 360 is it is easy to fix, and repair USB wifi adapters vs. built-in wifi on consoles which are harder to repair.
