Muisic Critic Sung Woo Jin "Plagiarism is not only a problem of Lee Hyori."
In the middle of the chaos going around today that has to do with Lee Hyori's "Get Ya" plagiarism issue, Korea's Music Critic, Sung Woo Jin has said, "This plagiarism issue isn't just a problem of Lee Hyori, but it's an issue that has to do with the music of Korea as a whole."
On the 27th(of March), at the 20th annual 'Korean Music World' discussion press meet, the subject of plagiarism has come up for it has become the latest big issue this year for Korean Music.
Sung Woo Jin says to Lee Hyori's reps "Denying in the beginning and saying that you were influenced or you were sampling or other explanations other than plagiarism was something very irresponsible and were obviously taking everybody else and our community as as stupid, dumb people. There are still many people who work hard for their music who don't even know or think about "remaking" music from other artists."
He also added, "In the past when KPOP began, there were many times where our singers only had different judgements or suspicions of plagiarism and even that suspicion could've ended their careers and lives, but now the situations have changed. Many music critics have closed their ears and decided to let the American influence go and more and more our music companies are taking advantage of that."
"Yet, if Lee Hyori feels like she's the scapegoat, she is nothing to blame for that frustartion, either and there is a big probability that she does feel that way."
Sung Woo Jin has said his thoughts on Lee Hyori herself. "Even if she knows that she did wrong, it is understandable if Lee Hyori feels frustration that she is the only one to blame for this situation and I gaurantee she feels that way. It's meaningless to even have big arguments to say whether she plagiarized or not. There are countless other singers that leave behind an image that doesn't necessarily say 'Real Music' and it was pretty much nonsense for everybody to gang up on only Lee Hyori and her song for something that's been happening for a long time."
He continued, "And not even Lee Hyori, but there are many other singers who are taking music outside of Korea that shouldn't be sent overseas and who are getting too much attention. For instance, Bi (Rain) has done concerts in the USA and it was KOREAN people who gathered in a big audience to watch. Therefore, our reporters and journalists think that he has succeeded big time in the US only because his concert was sold out, yet there were only fans that were Korean who went and Koreans who made the concert big. His concert succeeded, but that doesn't mean his American fame has. He didn't exactly accomplish what reporters are writing and same with many other singers trying to get fame overseas."
Another important figure of the day, DJ Jun Young Hyuk has added "Our KPOP culture is doing well these days in a certain aspect, but it's not the kind of art like before anylonger. Singers need to go back as singers and dancers just need to go back as dancers."

음악평론가 성우진, "표절시비, 이효리만의 문제 아니다"
이효리의 신곡 'Get Ya'의 표절 시비로 가요계가 연일 시끄러운 가운데 대중음악평론가 성우진이 "표절 문제는 이효리만의 문제가 아니라 한국 가요계 전체의 문제"라며 우리 가요계에 일침을 가했다.
성우진은 27일 서울 프레스센터 외신기자클럽 라운지에서 열린 '전영혁의 음악세계' 20주년 기자간담회에 참석해 가요계 화두가 되고 있는 표절 문제에 대해 언급하며 이같이 말했다.
성우진은 이효리 측이 "표절이 아니라 모티브를 얻은 것"이라고 해명한 것을 의식한 듯 "표절한 후 샘플링했다고 변명하며 책임을 피하고 어쭙지 않은 곡을 아카펠라 장르라고 하는 등 우리 사회의 많은 사람들이 음악에 대해 무지하다"며 "리바이벌이 뭔지, 리메이크가 뭔지 모르는 사람들이 음악을 하고 있기도 하다"고 말했다.
그는 이어 "과거에는 표절 '판정'이 아니라 표절 '의혹'만 불거져도 가수 생명이 끝나는 경우가 많았는데 지금은 상황이 많이 달라졌다"며 "음악 청취자들의 귀가 많이 닫혀 있다"고 꼬집기도 했다.
"이효리, 표절 의혹에 억울한 면도 없지 않을 것"
성우진은 이효리 표절 여부에 대한 본인의 생각을 묻는 질문에 "표절이다, 아니다 논할 가치도 없다"고 일축한 후 "이효리 역시 자신에게 비난이 쏟아지는 것에 대해 억울한 면도 없지 않을 것"이라는 생각을 피력했다. 그에 따르면 한국 음악계에는 이미 '진짜 음악다운 음악'이 별로 남지 않은 상황이기 때문에 이효리의 곡 하나만을 가지고 표절 여부를 가리는 작업은 무의미하다는 것.
그는 또 "이효리 뿐 아니라 다른 가수들 역시 해외 시장에 내놓기 어려운 곡으로 외국 진출을 시도하고 있다"며 "가수 비가 미국에서 아시아인, 한인들을 데려다 놓고 콘서트를 마친 것을 갖고 성공적으로 미국 시장에 진출한 것처럼 보도하는 것은 기자들이 속은 것에 불과하다"고 강도높게 쓴소리를 하기도 했다.
이날 기자간담회 장소에는 성우진을 비롯 20년간 음악 프로그램을 진행한 정통 DJ 전영혁과 그룹 블랙홀의 리더 주상균 등 한국 가요계에 산 증인들이 참석한 만큼 현재 우리의 가요 풍토에 대한 성토가 봇물을 이뤘다.
이날 기자회견의 주인공이기도 한 DJ 전영혁은 "요즘 가요계에는 여러가지 일을 하지만 하나도 제대로 못하는 '종합예술인'밖에 남지 않은 것 같다"며 "가수는 가수로, 댄서는 댄서로 돌아가야 한다"고 목소리를 높이기도 했다.
한편, 다음달 29일 '방송 20년'이라는 대기록을 세우게 되는 KBS 쿨FM(89.1㎒) '전영혁의 음악세계'(오전 2시~3시 방송)는 이를 기념하기 위해 다양한 기념 행사를 가질 예정이다.
우선 다음달 8일 오후 4시 서울 여의도 KBS홀에서 기념 콘서트가 열린다. 가수 김경호와 아나운서 황정민의 사회로 진행될 콘서트에는 K2 김성면, 박완규, 블랙홀, 예레미, 이현석 밴드, SG워너비, 박선주, 유영석, 이수영 등이 무대에 오르게 된다.
같은 날 오후 1시부터 6시까지 여의도 KBS홀 로비에서는 '전영혁의 음악세계'가 소개한 현대음악 전문레이블 ECM의 LP 커버 전시회와 LP음반 등을 파는 후원 바자회 및 할인 장터, 전영혁의 사인회 등이 열릴 함께 예정이다.
