Internet go out?
Does your internet ever go out often? Is it ever due to your ISP or your hardware?

I used to have my ISP disconnect me for a few minutes from the internet at random times per year. Sometimes it happens on a monthly basis. I think it is caused by the ISP's modem, or my ISP connection being down for maintenance or to update the modem's firmware.

I notice hard resetting a router or modem usually works at fixing most problems unless the devices are broken.Skeithex wrote:That sucks, my recently went out but I simply needed to hard rest my router and modem

that can be a pain to do, and I always fear that settings may be changed or devices won't hook up right.froggyboy604 wrote:I notice hard resetting a router or modem usually works at fixing most problems unless the devices are broken.Skeithex wrote:That sucks, my recently went out but I simply needed to hard rest my router and modem

I think there are power bars and power plugs where you can turn off on on the power with a remote, or with an app on your smartphone, tablet, or PC.Skeithex wrote:that can be a pain to do, and I always fear that settings may be changed or devices won't hook up right.froggyboy604 wrote:I notice hard resetting a router or modem usually works at fixing most problems unless the devices are broken.Skeithex wrote:That sucks, my recently went out but I simply needed to hard rest my router and modem
There is a chance that settings would be lost if the router rely on a battery to store information, and the battery, and power is unplugged. I think more advance routers may have an internal battery like PCs and laptops which store BIOS/CMOS information on the motherboard, and require a battery to keep the settings up.
I think some routers let you backup the settings to a PC in the router control panel page.

None of my stuff has a battery or back up supply, when the power goes out everything is out unfortunately.
