black screen after login?

Had to help someone with this issue of late, they have a HP windows 10 laptop and after the login screen their screen would be black. But you still have a moveable cursor and can bring up the ctrl+alt+delete screen, but their desktop would be blank. Granted in safe mode their desktop appeared just fine.

What do you think would cause this? I say its a driver issue but I couldn't get one to install in safe mode.

Sometimes a broken startup program, and virus maybe preventing your PC's screen to be black.

I'm thinking it was a program, though its always hard to tell what without reinstalling everything.

A bad update to an antivirus, firewall, and security program maybe showing a blank screen, or making a PC very slow where it takes a very long time to show the desktop.

played with it a little more today, finally decided to give him a new user profile, I think the one he was using was just corrupted somehow.

I think sometimes a power outage, or random reboot caused by hardware failure like Bad RAM, software problem, and virus may cause system files to be corrupted.

His new user profile showing a blank screen may come back if a hardware problem like Bad RAM, virus, or software problem is corrupting his user account.
