If you were to explain what a CPU process was and does to a person, how would you say it?

I say the CPI is a calculator which processes and change information/data to hardware and software which display it on a monitor, as sound on speakers, or data to other computers which don't have a monitor or keyboard.

I would keep it more simple and just say that it powers how quickly the programs run on the PC.
