Samsung Electronics has announced starting mass production of its 8-Gigabit (Gb) NAND Flash memory device, which was developed in September 2004.
Significantly, this high-density multi-level-cell (MLC) memory device is being produced using the 60-nanometer (nm) process technology, touted as the most delicate technology used in the industry so far.
The company claims that 60-nanometer technology brings about almost 25 percent higher manufacturing productivity, over its predecessor, the 70-nanometer process. Sixty-nano is also believed to provide larger and more affordable storage density for consumer and mobile applications, including mobile phones, MP3 players, and gaming consoles.
Reportedly, the new 60-nanometer chip has a capacity of 8-Gigabits. Samsung intends to compile eight of these 8-Gb chips to form one 8-Gigabyte module.
Samsung also plans to utilize its 8Gb NAND flash memory chip in its high-density MLC NAND, called moviNAND, to produce a 2-Gigabyte-level NAND market solution. The recently introduced moviNAND combines NAND flash memory and a controller, and can be embedded in mobile handsets to accommodate high data storage requirements.
The 8Gb NAND, which can store up to 2000 MP3 files or up to 225 minutes of DVD-quality video files, is expected to be available in the third quarter of 2006.

8GB of flash that be so cool on a mp3 /video player then you can like watch your shows or mvs you downloaded from the internet.
actually there are flash hard drives, but you need to buy your own ram, and it only have 4GB of capacity, but its fast. sort of costly.

the technology to do this is already about but the companies make more money selling them seperatelybabydorkee wrote:oOo haha..i never knew that. but they should come up with faster ones that provides the ram in the flash drive..now that would be wayyy too expensive..
