Rain Makes into Encyclopedia Britannica

2008-05-08

World star Rain (real name Jung Ji-hoon) has been listed in the Year in Review 2007 of the Encyclopedia Britannica Online. He is only the third Korean figure to be included in the biographies section of the Britannica. The other two are poet Ko Un and President Lee Myung-bak. However, Rain is the first Korean entertainer to be mentioned in the annual review.

Britannica Online described Rain as a pan-Asian superstar, who topped Time Magazine’s online poll as the most influential person in the world in 2007, although the article did not fail to mention that Rain’s status was undoubtedly the result of his fans’ dedication. The world-renowned encyclopedia also compared him to American idol star Justin Timberlake and introduced Rain’s past works in music, TV and film.

The annual review of the Britannica includes the year’s major events and figures. It is not that often an entertainer is introduced in the encyclopedia. Rain’s fans welcomed the inclusion, saying that the inclusion of his biography on the Britannica demonstrates the breadth of his influence in the world entertainment business

Congrats to Rain. I wonder if BoA* ever be added to the Encyclopedia.

I don’t think Boa* would make it into Britannica. She hasn’t moved into the western media… but depending on how well her English is ( i remember she said she’s gonna take a year off and go to school over seas..to improve her English and dance.) I think she’ll just be as popular she is in Korea. =/ I don’t really see Asian artists making it big in North America because of their style, and their English.

DBSG and Big Bang doesn’t really awe me in any way. If i gave some of their songs to an North American, and ask them if they like the beat of the song/ do you understand what they are singing in English.

Any who its my own opinion and I’m not a huge fan of any of those artists. I do like Boa’s music and I do hope that she does make it big in North America. But there’s just some overrated groups who shouldn’t try at all.

Yeah, I think the Wondergirls from Korea should not try to come to America. They seem to only apeal to small girls and younger men who likes young girls who wear skirts.
